Andrés Lemus is a Guatemalan-born photographer and designer based in New York City and Arlington, Virginia. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and Imaging with a minor in Art History at the esteemed Tisch School of the Arts. With a multicultural background, my journey in visual arts began by painting sets for my mother’s theater group during my childhood. This early exposure ignited a passion for creativity that evolved from singing to acting to photography, leading me to Joaquin Orellana's studio, where I honed my skills in constructing sculptural instruments and miniatures, contributing to shows, exhibits, and the studio’s nonprofit initiatives.

My artistic journey revolves around both performing and capturing performances, creating a dynamic duality that reflects my diverse influences. Fuelled by curiosity, my work explores themes of identity, culture, and introspection, utilizing minimal resources to craft captivating visual narratives.

Influenced by the immersive worlds of theatre and music, my work is rooted in the raw reality of human existence. I explore the beauty found in life's highs, lows, and unsettling moments, aiming to convey experiences rather than the absolute 'truth.' My artistic journey begins with the idea of life itself, delving into the memory and essence of existence. Utilizing both digital and analog photography, I play with various mediums and formats to expand the boundaries of the still photograph.
Through ingenuity and resourcefulness, I transform simplicity and common objects into extravagance, crafting visual narratives that captivate and inspire. Introspection guides my artistic process, leading me to explore the depths of personal reflection and universal truths. While celebrating the allure of the extravagant, my art finds its essence in the representation of the ordinary, inviting viewers to discover the extraordinary and grotesqueness within the everyday experience.
